Osteopathy is an established, recognised system of diagnosis and treatment that lays its main emphasis on the structure and function of the body. Osteopaths view the body as a whole unit, each part relating to each other part to contribute to overall function. If the structure is in good working order, the body will function well and be able to maintain, heal and repair itself. If structure is strained or injured, then function and self healing mechanisms will be adversely affected, thus producing pain inflammation and restriction in movement. Osteopathy is a way of detecting and treating damaged parts of the body such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints. When the body is balanced and efficient, just like a well tuned engine, it will function with the minimum of wear and tear, leaving more energy for living. Osteopaths treat a variety of common conditions including changes to posture in pregnancy; babies with colic or sleeplessness, repetitive strain injury, postural problems caused by driving or work strain, the pain of arthritis and sports injuries.
